Windsor is home to Combermere Barracks and Victoria Barracks. The Household Cavalry Regiment is permanently based at Combermere barracks in Windsor in the Formation Reconnaissance (FR) role.
Windsor is only a mile south of junction 6 of the M4 motorway, from where Central London lies 23 miles to the east and the county town of Reading, with its popular shopping centres, is 20 miles to the west.
Closer to home, the towns of Slough and Maidenhead are within a ten minute drive away and offer many shops and amenities. Windsor Great Park, with its green open spaces, lies to the south and east of the town, stretching as far as Old Windsor and Ascot. The Great Park and the paths along the River Thames provide stunning scenery.
Both Units at Windsor have many facilities including gyms, various sports and recreational clubs, hairdressers, café facilities and convenience stores. Combermere Barracks also has a learning centre for personnel and dependants. Both Units also have the usual mess facilities. The community centre on the Broom Farm Estate houses many activities including kids' clubs, parent and toddler sessions, life long learning and exercise classes.
